Same cold ol' weather

Wouldn't mind a weather-change!

Last week was busy. Did a lot of ski-teaching, including a lot of feet-freezing. Tannheim has been mentioned at least three times, lately, in radio Ö3, as coldest settlement in Austria. We're famous, Wo-hooooo!!! Schmieden is a little higher up than central Tannheim, and off the river, so we had only around -23 to -24°, at the weatherstation down to -28°, according to the radio-news. But it's getting warmer. Wednesday. Then we get covered up with warming snow-clouds. Guess that means more snow for Pontiacs drive-way look-out. His favourite spot.

Well, the dishwasher-reanimation failed, so the old one is now history. Where it stood is now a gap, waiting for the new one to get delivered. Neff again. One frozen pipe thawed up, another bursted. Luckily in the workshop, where we store firewood, so Emil didn't have to tear down any walls...... - but this morning one of the pipes frooze again and we don't know exactly where :-(
Friday was kind of funny; that was the day I decided to have our neighbourhood-afternoon-party (the swedish word KALAS is the most suitable word I know. English version? Please comment!) as I thought everybody would be at home and have time. It turned out that Emil was the only one at home, but he didn't really have time to make coffee and serve cakes (and wine and schnaps and beer and......) as he was rather occupied with mending the broken pipe. Julia had to go to Innsbruck for an exam, Niki taught cross-country skiing, I absolved my 7 hours-day. Thanks to my foreseeing good preparation and Emil's efforts (later on also Julia's and Niki's) everybody got to drink and eat. As I came home, at last, everybody was happy and I only had to sit down and enjoy (and clean up the mess.....)
Tomorrow Julia too will go to work in the skischool (in Innsbruck JuNi give plasma to earn money, at home they have to work.....), so we're all busy.  The night is clear = it's getting COLD again, but I keep the faucet ( I learn!) running in Emmas bathroom to prevent more frozen pipes.
Since the last insert we've been up to Hubertushütte, for the saturdaynightbeer, twice, with the randonnéeskis. That has to be mentioned!

... sunday morning you can make out the last turns before landing at the kitchen door. Fabulous!

Still cold

Icy temperatures are good for defrosting a deepfreezer. Done!
Icy temperatures are just perfect - and necessary - for icelaterns.

If you put egg- or foodcolor in the water you can make fancy ones in green, pink, blue - or what you like. But that's nothing for us here in the mountains. But for the city, maybe......

Icy temperatures make the best decorations you can imagine

Unfortunately they also make the water freeze :-(  The well, where the horses normally drink all winter, is frozen. The fosset in Emmas bathroom aswell. Hopefully not very much. Hopefully the water will run tomorrow morning again - I put in a mobile heater in the bathroom and now it's as warm as in a sauna. Almost.
The dishwasher is not frozen. Only old. And broke. We spent friday evening trying to reanimate it. In vain! Luckily we have a spare little dishwasher until we get a new one downstairs in the kitchen.
Schneeemil has been snowing like mad, the last two nights, but I think he thinks it's enough now. Maybe.

Brrrrrr....

According to radio Ö3 Tannheim was the coldest spot in Austria, this sunday morning. 27° C below cero. I skied 5 hours nonstop. Brrrrr..... - but the sun was shining on me for a while :-)
As I finally got home I made Wiener Schnitzel and now I have baked a cake aswell and it's sooooo cosy in our new (rather new) isolated house.

A grey sunday to chill

Yes, today is a grey slow day. Yesterday I brought home some fever from the pist, so I decided to stay at home today to chill down (!) and avoid worse . Right now I feel successful :-) Haven't been out all day, except for feeding the rabbit a carrot, this morning. (Took about 20 seconds).
Niki is on Red Cross Duty. Julia is at home. Learning. Emil is at work. This weekend is a big crosscountryskiing event in Tannheim. Ski Trail Tannheimer Tal. In my better days (before my kneedemolition)  I participated there too. Emil too. And yes, Niki once as well. That is the one and only day you have the oppertunity to ski 30 km without taking off the skis to cross roads. I imagine skating on the lakes in Sweden is similar, but not so crowded, probably. You can go on and on and once and a while you get a warm drink or a little snack from friendly helpers. I'm planning to try out the classic version of cross country skiing, so maybe I can do the tour again, some time.
Anyhow, I hope Niki doesn't have to reanimate any overambitious sportsmen......
Low clouds, temperature around freezing point, a cosy corner at the fireside; the perfect day for getting well(er) again. But when the sun comes out you can hear the birds singing in the snowy trees. Fantastic! Spring is in the air....

Loads of snow in Innsbruck too.

This was last sundays waffeldesaster, by the way. No waffels today, But on March 25 I'll give it another try. With another waffeliron.

That waffelthing is older than me, I think. Shall I throw it away or sell to a Museum?
Happy end :-)))))

PS. Hey - I want congrats and hurrays for my 38th birthday!

Just friday

Everything is back to normal here in WinterWonderLand. No more closed roads. At least not any main roads. It's raining again. Seems to be normal as well, this winter. But it's just raining a little. Probably it will change into snow tonight. But we had two just fantastic beatyful days with sunshine and snowloaded mountains and forests. Breathtaking. So I wouldn't dare, complaining about a few raindrops. We have snow enough. But to be on the safe side, Schneemil made some extra, the other night, as it was clear and coooold.
Yesterday I went to Innsbruck, to get JuNi back home. As usual. Niki has midtermbreak for 4 weeks now (WOW!) Julia has another week to go, plus a few exams.
Emil is on a Motorcycle Trade Fair in Friedrichshafen today, with a few boys of his age, looking for toys (for big boys). That's good :-) I think he wanted to buy boots. Maybe he even comes home with a BMW F800 GS.....?!

Our SHEEPdog. He's got pretty hairy lately....:-)
T.

My new age

Yesterday I learned I'm not 53. I'm 38! At least the inside of me, my metabolic age. Great, isn't it?! A wellness coach with a hightech scale, found it out for me. Guess she wanted to sell me some healthy food. Guess I already feed healthy:-)

Snow report

More snow than ever, apparently. Maybe not in Tannheimer Tal directly, but in other parts of Tirol. Fernpass has been closed all day long, will open up tomorrow morning. Maybe. Danger of avalanges. Never heard of that before! Fernpass is a mainroute in Tirol and the connection to Innsbruck, for us. Luckily JuNi aren't due until thursday. Right now one has to go to Innsbruck via Füssen and Garmisch in Germany, then down via Seefeld. But that too, is a road often closed. Next option would then be via Kufstein. Nooooo, better stay home :-) At least we have no stormy winds anymore and all mountains around here are skiable. Even Emils :-) Emil told me, he went powder snow skiing in the breakfast break. Not bad :-)

T.

More snow

Since yesterday we got approximately 50 cm snow. More coming down. For a change I have a uptodate foto:

Skischool called and told me todays lessons are cancelled :-( Second day in a row. Not because of snowfall, because of strong wind. Emil was blown off his mountain as well. "What shalls" ? Let's enjoy another cosy day at the fireplace:-)

Friday report

Today is my first day off since december 18 2011. That only due to bad weather. One could also call it cosy weather. In this case :-) The wind is howling round the corners and the air is filled with snow. The week started with  sunny, clear icy days, though.  Minus 18° C on monday. Perfect for icelaternproduction :-) They lasted only until thursday, when it all of a sudden got warm and started to rain. Not enough for not skiing, though! But windy enough to to blow Emil off his mountain, so to say. The top ski area was closed, and the T-barlift closed down as well at lunch, when the skischools were ready. So we both ( and dog)( of course) went to Innsbruck to bring Julia and Niki home. We wanted, as well, to take a look at the olympic fire in Innsbruck, where the first youth winter olympic games are held at the moment. Is that someting the world outside Tirol knows about????? Anyhow we didn't see any fire, not even with my fine binoculars.
Today I allow my self to be lazy; took a warm bath and a nap after a horse/dog walk with Julia. The fourlegged ones need their walk even in nasty weather. And I cooked a chicken. Yummi!

Found some fotos yesterday, hidden in Nikis camera since Christmas:

I got a very nice hat. Found out that it's also practical as bag....

Niki got a hat as well. Far too big, though, so insted he uses it to bring out hay to his sheep.

Julia found skis under the tree - long fast ones!  Need to be tested in Ischgl soon :-)

Emil desperately on the search for a package with his name on it?!

Now I'll move on to the kitchen and produce some gravlaxsauce for tonight and some breakfastbiscuits for next week. Niki promised me a drink with ginger for tonight. Sounds interesting.

Nu är glada julen slut, slut, slut...

... julegranen akte ut, ut, ut.
It's about the same amount of work and effort demanded putting up a christmastree as to throw it out and clean up after christmas. I had millions and billions of treeneedles on the floor, instead of on the tree, when we were ready with it. But it was a big tree (a threetree) with a big fat foot - look

Linda and Florian came last monday and stayed over night. This years first guests :-) Hope to get more!

I think they envy us a bit for our snow. And the mountains we have the snow on :-)
Some mountains are even pure snow

Niki and Pontiac on top of Mount Front Lawn 1126 over the sea. Today, sunday 15th of january.
It got cold, since last week. As I got back from Innsbruck, earlier this evening, the car showed 17,5  Celsius below. Great weather for Schneemil to make snow. Saturday he was at work for 20 hours. Today he had the day off, and has only been gone for about 6 hours, till now. But he isn't at home yet.......
T.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow......

We got loads of snow during the last week, more coming down. Great for skiing and not too bad for riding. In fact great for everything, as long as you don't have to go anywhere by car. Like to Innsbruck, this afternoon. Julia and Niki have to get back to "school". Many roads are blocked by fallen trees......  hmmmmm - maybe I should take some coffee and sandwiches with me, for the trip today?!?!
Had a lot of work christmas/new year. Skied non-stop from 9.30 to 16.00 everyday (except 1/1). Today I only have two lessons and maybe coming week will be calmer. Probably! Though I don't mind working all day :-)
T.

Happy New Year!

The last gingerbread. Today, the first of january 2012, we'll eat it. One piece for everybody.

Christmas is over. Quiet and peaceful, good food and good drinks.
Julias 22nd birthday is also absolved. Quiet and peaceful. This years cake was a carrotcake with macadamia cream and a creamcheese icing. Quite good, if I may say it myself..... Not very spectacular though, ecept for the cakefirework.

New years eve, we spent at home, as usual. With cheese fondue, as usual. And "Dinner for one" on TV, as usual.
We played cards and Emil did'nt fall asleep. That's definitely NOT usual :-)

Well, I wish all readers a great new year, but now I'm off for the pist. Only one lesson today. Tonight we all participate at the yearly new year torch skiing, from the top of "Emil's mountain". Unless it's raining or storming.....

T.

Oh Tannenbaum....

Julia and Emil "picked" christmastrees today. The big one for us, upstairs "under the roof", one small one for Grand(o)pa and for Evi in Füssen.

A cosy day

Friday. The house is full again. Julia has already got Christmasvacation, Niki has another week to go, with two exams.
It's been a rainy, windy day, reminding me of my childhood winters in Laholm. Cosy. Dark. Lot of candles. Baked two bananabreads, it smells so good! Taste good too, of course. For lunch we watched Super G from Gröden ( absolutely no calories, yes!). Later a seldom seen friend knocked on the door and we had warm gingerbrew with gingerbread, in my cosy kitchen and we had

ot of gingerbrew, during the cold part(s) of the year. Ínstead of having a flushot. I don't know if it works or not, but fact is (knock on wood!!!!) that I practically never get even a cold eventhough I often, more or less, freeze my ass of, during my hours on the pists. And my hands. And my feet.  Last tuesday, another, even more seldom friend called. Lars Herrstedt.
After had, please continue here (because this stupid damned curser eats my text and this stupid damned thing destroyed the half context, yesterday evening because the internet broke and I'm about to loose my temper, this next morning GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! ok......... we had a nice long chat!!!

Then : ........ I drink a lot of gingerbrue...........................
Then : Lars Herrstedt. He took my out for dinner in the evening (Jungbrunn) and we had a nice long chat.
The rain changed into snow, now it's saturday morning , still snowing, but less wind. Another cosy day coming up!

T.

PS Luckily I found my lost temper again - it isn't really worth loosing it because of a stupid computer ( I know!) - besides it's stupid ME, as usual, and NOT the computer. I KNOW :-))))))))))

Lucia

1958.
Brita o Uffe.

T.

Bakery

Julia and I did some Christmasbaking yesterday, sunday. Some procedure as every year......
Niki helped too. He put the raisins in the Lussekatter.

As usual we had a jolly good time. It seems Julia likes my cinnamon"stars" - they are delicious and would probably survive a nuclear war.

Winter

At least more or less. It began in a pretty good manner during the week; lorries stuck on the roads, other lorries in the ditches, no coming through for hours. Getting to Innsbruck on Thursday took a loooooong time, including detours. Has everybody forgotten how to drive on snow, since last year???? In fact, the roads were almost free from snow, but nevertheless these lorries got stuck or drove in walkingpace with chains or blocke the half road putting on and off chains. Driving home over Fernpass, later in the evening was no problem, in spite of heavy snowfall and white road, because we were almost alone on the road then. Julia drove safely home. No problem!
In the night to Friday the snow turned to rain, the storm knocked some trees over and those in turn knocked some power lines over. But not so bad!
This morning was reminded me of the winters in Sweden; not very cold, quiet, patches of snow or patches of grass, grey sky, white snow, black branches, drip-drop......... It was very beautyful and very relaxing.
Later the sun came out and I took the cabin up to Emil, to try out the new winterhiking road.

Towards home, from the cabin, pretty far down.

Towards home from further up.

This weekend the skiarea opened up. Emil makes sure that everything is well prepared for all the broken legs and arms expected.

T.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!

Perfect! We had wonderful dry weather until saturday, when we took down all leftover fences and brought the sheep back home for winter. Sunday was rainy and windy and real cosy :-) Then - exactly as we ordered end of october - it started to snow, monday morning. Now is tuesday evening and it's still snowing. Great!!!!
Got my doors ready today with beewax and polishin. By hand....puh!

Before

After.
The difference is more obvious in real. Come and have a look!!!!

Tomorrow is Innsbruck day, again. Intend to combine it with a photoexhibition, for a change. Best journalist photos of the year, from all over the world.
On thursday we have one of those marvellous catholic holydays again and so JuNi get a loooooong weekend. Emil too. For me it's all the same....... Plan to bake. Gingerbread. Reminds me, mustn't forget to buy ginger tomorrow! As the store is closed on thursday. Darn holydays :-) We ran out of swedish syrup last year so we'll make a try with maplesyrup. Tried some german stuff once - tasted like molasses. The sticky stuff you can feed pigs and horses. Not good! The gingerbread tasted like molasses as well. Not good! So, for all our sakes, I hope maplesyrup is GOOD..... :-)
Now I' ll write a christmasletter, have a cup of tea ( "Hüttenzauber") and watch men's second giant slalom, from Beaver Creek.
T.

A quicky :-)

No time for many words. Just want to say HELLO! Have to watch downhill worldcuprace from Beaver Creek and Lake Louise. Have a nice evening!
T.

Jeans

Am I the only person in the world that doesn't like jeans with stretch? If there had been more of us, shouldn't there be some Levis without stretch somewhere? I just tried to fix my most loved, and only, pair. With  a sticky textilepatch to iron on. Usually I sew. Zick-zack. I love those jeans, because they are not already bought "used", they ARE used. And bleached, all by my little self, throughout the years. That's the way real jeans should be!
I vote for the revival of strechless jeans!!!!!!!
Tomorrow we are going to Innsbruck. Early. Have to be there at 8 o'clock in the morning, for my yearly medical check-up. See how many % of the expected performance I achieve at the spiro-ergometer. Last time we stopped at 175%. I want to blast the 200% limit, but the doc won't let me. Says she ge depressed by letting me continue..... :-) Emil and Pontiac are going to check out Stubaital, meanwhile. Then we meet Julia at the Christmasmarket. They have warm eggnogg there. Yum-yum! Later we meet Niki too. Julia has promised to drive home. Good child - isn't fond of alcohol.
